The winery is located in Saint-Émilion in the area of the same name (Bordeaux). Its origins date back to the 13th century, when wines were produced here for the Order of St John (Commanderie). After a chequered history, the estate was bought by Fernand De in 1959 and finally acquired by Thibaut and Magli Decoster in 2004, who also own the Château Clos des Jacobins. After the takeover, the winery was completely renovated and the vineyards were converted to organic farming. The estate was classified as a Grand Cru Classé for the first time in 2012. The vineyards cover six hectares of vines, planted with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). The long-lasting red wine is matured for 18 months in 50% new barriques. The second wine is called "Les Chemins de la Commanderie".
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
