The vineyard is located in the Pomerol region directly on the border with the Saint-Émilion region (Bordeaux). The famous Château Cheval Blanc is located in the immediate neighbourhood. It was once part of Château Figeac (see the history there). Cathérine Conseillan inherited a plot of land in 1734 and planted vines between 1735 and 1776. From 1756, she devoted herself exclusively to her vineyard. In the 1750s, the simple manor house, which still exists today, was built. After several changes of ownership, it was acquired by Louis Nicolas (+1880) in 1871. Today it is managed by Bernard Nicolas. In the 1970s, Prof Émile Peynaud (1912-2004) acted as a consultant. The vineyards cover 12 hectares of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). The extremely long-lasting red wine is matured for 18 months in 80 to 100% new barriques. The second wine "Duo de Conseillante" has been produced since the 2007 vintage.
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
