The vineyard is located in the commune of Pomerol in the area of the same name (Bordeaux). It was founded in the middle of the 17th century by the Fontémoing family and was known as "Trop Ennui". This means "too much hard work" due to the hard-to-work soil. The subsequent owners, the Giraud family, changed the less prestigious name to Trotanoy. After changing hands several times, the estate has belonged to the Moueix family empire since 1953. It is the residence of the legendary company founder Jean-Pierre Moueix. One kilometre to the west is Château Pétrus, which also belongs to the family. The Trotanoy wine is vinified under similarly strict conditions and is considered the "crown prince" after the "King of Pomerol". The vineyards cover eight hectares and are planted with Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). The extremely long-lasting red wine matures for 20 to 24 months in up to 50% new barriques.
