Cheverny

Named after the town of the same name in the Loir-et-Cher department, the appellation is an enclave to the northeast of the area Touraine, The former VDQS area was classified in 1993. The vineyards cover 2,000 hectares of vineyards on predominantly sandy clay soils in 24 communities, of which approximately 550 hectares are planted. They extend into terraces along the left bank of the Loire from the forest and lake-rich Sologneregion to the edge of the Orléansregion. The appellation partly overlaps with the small area Cour-Cheverny,

The red wines are mainly from the varieties Gamay and Pinot Noir (85%), as well as shares of Cabernet Franc and Cot blended. For the rosé wines is mainly Gamay, as well Pineau d'Aunis and Pinot Noir used. The white wines are out Sauvignon Blanc (60-85%), as well as Arbois Blanc ( Menu Pineau ) Chardonnay and Pineau de la Loire ( Chenin Blanc ) generated. Well-known producers are François Gazin, Jean-Michel Courtioux, Domaine de la Desoucherie, Domaine de la Gaudronnière, Domaine Maison Pere et Fils, Domaine des Huards and Domaine Sauger.
