The red grape variety comes from Greece, Synonyms are Chondromavrouda, Chondromavroudi, Chondromavroudo and Khondromavroud. You may not with the morphological different variety Sefka (with the confusing synonym Chondromavro) can be confused ( DNA analysis are pending, as of 2013). The late-ripening vine is susceptible to Botrytis, It produces low-acid red wines with gentle tannins, which also serve as Liastos (Sweet wine made from dried grapes). The variety is in the Kozáni area in the region Macedonia (the “wrong” chondromavro also grows here) often with the variety Moschomavro and Xinomavro cultivated together.
