Chondromavro

The red grape variety comes from Greece. Synonyms are Chondromavrouda, Chondromavroudi, Chondromavroudo and Khondromavroud. It must not be confused with the morphologically different variety Sefka (with synonym Chondromavro). The late maturing vine is susceptible to botrytis. It produces low-acid red wines with soft tannins, which are also produced as Liastos (sweet wine made from dried grapes). The variety is often cultivated together with the Moschomavro and Xinomavro varieties in the Kozáni area of Macedonia (where the "false" Chondromavro also grows). In 2016, however, no stocks were reported (statistics Kym Anderson).
