The white grape variety (also called Faux Viognier) originates from France. Despite morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the Viognier variety. The assumption expressed by Pierre Galet (1921-2019) that it is a colour mutation of Brun Fourca has been refuted according to DNA analyses carried out in 1999. The medium to late ripening vine was first mentioned in 1899. This variety, threatened with extinction, is part of a reactivation programme on the upper Rhône in the Condrieu area. It is also cultivated by a producer in the US state of North Carolina. However, no stock was reported in 2016 (statistics Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
