chromosome

Chromosomes (from ancient Greek chrōma = color and sōma = body ') are components of cells on which genetic information is stored. They occur in every cell nucleus of living things (animals or humans, plants and fungi). A chromosome contains the DNA in the form of a double helix on which the genes are encoded, as well as many proteins. The name chromosome (colored body) is derived from the fact that these structures can easily be stained with basic dyes. See under DNA,
