Chusclan

Independent municipal area in the Département Gard in the southern French appellation Côtes du Rhône-Villages (see the AOC regulations there) In addition to Chusclan, the area also includes the four municipalities of Bagnols-sur-Cèse, Codolet, Orsan and Saint-Etienne-des Sorts. The name Chusclan may also be mentioned on the label. King Louis XIII (1601-1643) was already a lover of these wines. The vineyards cover about 180 hectares of vines on siliceous slopes and terraces with some sandy zones. Until the 1960s, Chusclan was the capital of rosé along with the neighbouring Tavel, today more than 80% of the red wines are produced. Well-known producers are Caves des Vignerons de Chusclan and Domaine du Lindas.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
