CIVC

Abbreviation for the "Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne", a semi-public organisation founded in 1941 under the authority of the French government. It represents the interests of the vignerons (winegrowers) and négociants (merchants) in the Champagne region, from whose fees the budget is derived. Its main task is to draw up and monitor all conditions relating to the production of Champagne. The presidency consists of one president each of the winegrowers and the merchants. Both are supported by the "Comission Consultative", which consists of six representatives each of the winegrowers and merchants. This commission adopts the decisions and supervises the work of some committees with the tasks of communication, coordination between winegrowers and merchants, technical research and development of the champagne market. In autumn, recommendations are made for the timing of the grape harvest and the yield per hectare is determined. See also a list of relevant organisations under Viticulture Institutions.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
