The winery is located in Blewitt Springs (a suburb of Adelaide) in the Australian area McLaren Vale in the state of South Australia. The owner and cellar master is the former biochemist Roman Bratasiuk. As a career changer, he produced his first in 1990 Garage wine, The own vineyard area is only one hectare in size, mainly grapes are purchased from contract winemakers. The wines are produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Grenache Noir and Pinot Noir. The reasons for the high quality include old vines and the resulting low yields. The vinification takes place according to traditional methods with natural yeast fermentation, long maceration, no fining and filtration, and only minimal addition of sulfur. The wines are aged for 18 months with a mix of used and new French oak barrels. The flagship of the house is the “Astralis Shiraz”, which was first produced in 1994 and immediately attracted international attention. Particularly outstanding vintages are 1994, 1995 and 1996 (see also under Wine of the century ).
