Clarendon Hills

The winery is located in Blewitt Springs (a suburb of Adelaide) in the Australian area McLaren Vale in the state of South Australia. Owner and butler is the former biochemist Roman Bratasiuk. As a newcomer he produced his first in 1990 Garage wine, The own vineyards are only one hectare in size, mainly grapes are bought by contract growers. The wines are produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Grenache Noir and Pinot Noir. The causes of high quality include old vines and the resulting low yields. The vinification takes place according to traditional methods with natural yeast fermentation, long maceration time, renouncing fining and filtration, as well as only minimal addition of sulfur. The wines are aged for 18 months with a mix of used and new French oak barrels. The flagship of the house is the "Astralis Shiraz", which was first produced in 1994 and immediately attracted international attention. Particularly outstanding vintages are 1994, 1995 and 1996 (see also under Wine of the century ).
