Designation in French Burgundy for a vineyard or a site of smaller dimensions. Climats are sections of sites or appellations that are characterised by ownership and/or a special terroir or climatic conditions. The phenomenon occurs mainly in Burgundy and has been taken into account in the Burgundy Classification. The Burgundian climats were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015. Other designations for qualitatively outstanding areas are Clos, Côte, Cru and Lieu-dit. A list of all keywords relevant to vineyards is included under vineyard area.
There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
