The estate is located in the municipality of Laumersheim in the German wine-growing region palatinate, It was founded in 1874 by the Knipser family from South Tyrol. In addition to viticulture was also fruit and arable farming and the wines sold in barrels. As one of the first wineries in the region, bottling bottling and direct marketing began in 1948. At the beginning of the 1970s, viticulture was completely changed over. Volker and Werner Knipser started in the mid-1980s Barrique and are considered absolute specialists today. Werner Knipser's son Stephan has been a co-owner since 2005. All wines have been developed since 2003 in the new state-of-the-art cellar building on the outskirts of Laumersheim. The vineyards cover 40 hectares of vineyards in the individual layers Kapellenberg, cherry Orchard and Steinbuckel (Laumersheim) Mandelpfad (Dirmstein), as well Burgweg and Osterberg (Grosskarlbach).

The wines are 95% dry, in suitable years but also Trockenbeerenauslese pressed. The wines pressed from the first vineyards are called Big plants marketed. Of the red wines are "Cuvée X" in Bordeaux style (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, 18 to 20 months in predominantly new barriques), "Cuvée XR" (selection of best barrels Cuvée X, only in prime years) and Pinot Noir "Burgweg" worth mentioning.
