The estate is located in Healdsburg im Alexander Valley in the Californian Sonoma County (Region North Coast ). It was founded in 1974 by Frank Woods and his partner Thomas Reed. At first it should be called "Woods Vineyards", but the French-studying children of Woods finally chose the original name (French bois = forest, Clos du Bois = Vineyard of the Woods). The estate was after several changes of ownership finally in 2007 by Constellation Brands Bought. Winemaker since 2003 is Erik Olsen, who joined Mondavi and Simi Winery had worked. The vineyard area totals 370 hectares Alexander Valley, Furthermore, grapes from the AVA areas Dry Creek Valley, Knights Valley, Los Carneros. Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast (all Sonoma County, North Coast), as well Monterey ( Central Coast ) purchased.
