The winery is located in the municipality of Trittenheim (Mittelmosel area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. Helmut Clüsserath took over the winery from his father in 1969. His marriage to the winemaker's daughter Hilde Weiler in 1978 resulted in the current name and size of the business. His brother Dietmar Clüsserath owns the Clüsserath-Hilt winery. Daughter Verena completed her viticulture studies in Geisenheim in 2004 and, after gaining further practical experience in other wineries, will continue to run the family business. The cross-vaulted cellar under the house is worth seeing. The vineyards cover five hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Apotheke (Trittenheim) and Zellerberg (Mehring). The best part of the Apotheke, called Fährfels, is cultivated together with a winegrower friend. It is cultivated with 100% Riesling. Around ninety per cent of the wines are vinified dry or semi-dry. On the label, the flavour is indicated in the form of a coloured band. Yellow stands for dry, green for semi-dry and red for residual sweet/ noble sweet Rieslings. In 1994, we began fermenting part of the must with the natural yeasts from the vineyards. With the 1998 vintage, there was a complete switch to spontaneous fermentation.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
