The white grape variety originates from Portugal. Synonyms are Côdega do Larinho and Côdega Larinho. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2020, it comes from a presumably natural cross between Hebén x Rabigato. It should not be confused with the Síria variety (Códega), despite the synonyms or morphological similarities that seem to indicate it. This medium-maturing, high-yielding vine is susceptible to downy mildew. It produces rather low-acid white wines with tropical fruit aromas. The variety is mainly grown in the Douro and Trás-os-Montes areas, where it is mostly blended with the Arinto do Douro (Dorinto), Rabigato and Gouveio (Godello) varieties. In 2016, 455 hectares of vines were declared in Portugal (Statisdtik Kym Anderson).
