Col d'Orcia

The Italian winery "Tenuta Col d'Orcia" is located in the municipality of Montalcino in the Tuscany, It was founded by the noble Delle Ciaia family in the first half of the 18th century and subsequently had two different owners. From 1933 it operated under the name "Fattoria di Sant'Angelo in Colle". In 1973 the estate of Cinzano Acquired, chairman of the company is Conte Francesco Marone Cinzano, manager Edoardo Virano, responsible oenologist is Pablo Härri. The total property is 540 hectares. The vineyards comprise 142 hectares of vineyards with the individual layers Banditella, Bozzolino, Campone, Giardino, Nastagio, Pascena, Pian di Vitino and Poggio al Vento. Three quarters of them are with the Sangiovese clone Brunello (100 ha) and the Sangiovese clone Sant'Antimo, Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Syrah. Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio ( Pinot gris ), Moscadello ( Muscat Blanc ) Canaiolo Nero and Ciliegiolo planted.

Particular attention is paid to optimal grape ripeness and selective hand picking. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. 800 barrels of Slavonian and French oak are available for the expansion of the wines. It will be the DOCG wines Brunello di Montalcino in different variants and Chianti who have favourited DOC wines Moscadello di Montalcino. Rosso di Montalcino and Sant'Antimo produces, as well as the IGT wines "Olmaia" (Cabernet Sauvignon), "Nearco" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah) and "Spezieri" (Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon). In close cooperation with the universities of Florence and Milan, a number of research projects are carried out on the topics of improving grape quality and vineyard management.
