Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit

DOCG area for white wine in the Italian region Friuli Venezia Giulia. The classification took place in 2006, until then the wine was included in the DOC area Colli Orientali del Friuli. The zone includes hilly areas in the municipalities of Prepotto and Tarcento in the province of Udine. The subzone Cialla may be added to the DOCG name. Until the middle of the 18th century, the wine was found on the aristocratic and imperial tables of all Europe and was equated with the famous Château d'Yquem. This sweet, straw-yellow dessert wine has a rich aroma of peaches, apricots, pears and honey. It must be made from at least 85% Picolit, 100% Picolit in the Cialla subzone. The alcohol content must be at least 15%, in the subzone Cialla 16% vol. With 48 months of maturation it can be called Riserva.
