Concha y Toro

The winery in Chile was founded by the noble Don Melchor Concha y Toro (1833-1892) in 1883. The eldest of three brothers, he had graduated as a lawyer in 1857 and started a political career in 1864. The company started with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Merlot imported from Bordeaux. In 1923, the family business was the first Chilean winery to go public on the Santiago Stock Exchange (and in 1994 also on the New York Stock Exchange). Wines were exported to Europe for the first time in 1933. The headquarters are located at Pirque near the capital Santiago de Chile. The extensive estate includes several wineries with 3,200 hectares of vineyards scattered throughout Chile in all the main growing regions. The vineyards are located in Casablanca, as well as in the Valle Central in Maipo, Maule and Rapel.

The top product is the Bordeaux-style red wine Don Melchor. There are also the branded wines Amelia (Chardonnay), Casillera del Diablo (Cellar of the Devil - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc), Cono Sur (from the Tocornal winery), Frontera (Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon/Carmenère), Late Harvest (Sauvignon Blanc), Marques de Casa Concha (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay), Sun Rise (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay), Terrunyo (Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc), Trio (Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and Xplorador (Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Malbec). The sister estate Santa Emiliana (1,400 hectares) produces the Andes Peak, Palmeras Estate and Walnut Crest brands. A joint venture with Château Mouton-Rothschild is the Bordeaux-style red wine Almaviva.
