The red grape variety (also Florida L 44-33) is an interspecific new breeding between Florida E 12-59 (Fl. 43-47 x Concord) x Florida E 11-40 (Norris x Concord). It contains genes from Vitis aestivalis, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was bred at Florida State University in 1983 with the goal of achieving compatibility with the environmental conditions in Florida and resistance to Pierce 's disease. The variety thrives very well on sandy and highly alkaline soils. It produces wines with a light foxtone and is also used for table grapes. It is mainly found in the south of the USA in the Gulf States.
