Consorzio

A name for numerous winegrowing bodies in Italy that represent and promote common interests and, to a certain extent, determine and supervise the relevant provisions. One of the most famous is the "Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico" with the symbol Gallo nero (black cock). In France, this corresponds to a "Comité Interprofessionnel" which, for example, applies to producers of Armagnac. champagne or cognac gives.
