Cornichon blanc

The white grape comes from the Mediterranean area; possibly out Italy, The name (French for spice gourd) is derived from the elongated berry shape. There are around 120 Synonyms which point to a high age and the former wide distribution, especially in the Mediterranean countries. Some are Cara de Vaca, Cornicciola, Cornichidu, Cornichon Blanco, Cornichon Fehér, Cornichon Serpovidnii, Cornicha White, Corniola Bianca, Dedo de Doncella, Acorn grape, Fingergrape, Frauenfinger, Kornishon Belyi, Kornishon Cerpovidnyi, Pizzutella, Pizzutello di Roma, Santa Paula, Uva Cornicella and Uva de Africa.

It is not allowed with the Greek variety Kontegalo (with synonym Cornichon Blanc) are confused. The parentage is unknown. It was designed by Russian researcher Dr. Alexander M. Negrul (1900-1971) in his grape variety division of the group Proles orientalis assigned. The variety is called Kelter- and table grape available. In 2010, however, no stock was reported (Statistics Kym Anderson ).
