The appellation is located in the west of the wine growing region southwest of France between the appellations Cahors and Gaillac. The former VDQS area was classified as AOP in 2010. The vineyards extend over 30 communes in the two départements of Lot and Tarn-et-Garonne. Red and rosé wines are made from Cabernet Franc (40 to 60%), with a maximum of 20% of each variety of tannat, Côt (Malbec), Gamay Noir and Merlot.
