AOC area in the French Jura wine region. The vineyards cover 650 hectares of vines in about 60 of the 105 municipalities. The best known are Arlay, Gevingey, Le Vernois, Poligny, Rotalier and Voiteur. The red wine is blended from Poulsard, Trousseau Noir and Pinot Noir. The white varieties may also be used for rosé. The white wine is made from Savagnin Blanc(Traminer), Pinot Blanc and Melon d'Arbois(Chardonnay). AOC Côtes du Jura Mousseux applies to sparkling wines made from Savagnin, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. AOC Côtes du Jura Vin de Paille applies to sweet Vin de paille from Poulsard, Trousseau, Savagnin and Chardonnay. AOC Côtes du Jura Vin Jaune applies to Vin Jaune from Savagnin. The Franche-Comté IGP area is identical in terms of area. Well-known producers are Château d'Arlay, Domaine Berthet-Bondet, Daniel et Pascal Chalanard, Gabriel Clerc, Jacques Foret, Domaine Grand Frères, Domaine Labet, Domaone Jean Macle, Domaine Morel-Thibaut, Domaine Rolet, Domaine des Roussots and André et Mireille Tissot.
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
