The red grape variety is an open-pollinated seedling of Concord. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. It was selected in 1869 by Ephraim Wales Bull (1806-1895). It was described for the first time in 1912. The black-berried grapes produce red wines with a weak foxtone. However, it is mainly used as a table grape. The variety is cultivated in the US state of Arkansas. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
