Abbreviation for "Community Plant Variety Office", the Community Plant Variety Office of the European Union with headquarters in Angers (France). It is responsible for the affairs of European plant variety protection. The international association UPOV provides assistance in the establishment of a plant variety protection system within member states and promotes international cooperation. The mission is: to provide and promote an efficient intellectual property rights system that supports the creation of new plant varieties for the benefit of society . The CPVO is internally organised in three units, namely Technical, Administrative & IT. There is also a Legal, Procurement and Logistics Service which reports to the Vice President. Finally, there is a service responsible for the quality review of examination offices (QA). The QA Service is under the administrative responsibility of the President and is independent with regard to its examination activities.
