Crise Viticole

French name or winged buzzword for the wine-growing crisis in France that began at the end of the 20th century, with extreme losses in domestic and foreign sales. The main causes were the huge quantities of branded wines offered in particular by producers in the New World and the globalisation of the wine markets. The Languedoc was particularly affected because of its enormous surpluses of Vin de table and Vin de pays, but also Bordeaux and Burgundy. Only the Champagne region was spared to some extent. A number of measures were and are being planned or discussed. These include, for example, financial support for winegrowers, restructuring of vineyards (other grape varieties), temporary grubbing-up, recognition of new oenological practices (common in the New World) to improve competitiveness, and increased development of brands.

There is a vast number of sources on the web where one can acquire knowledge about wine. But none has the scope, timeliness and accuracy of the information in the encyclopaedia at wein.plus. I use it regularly and rely on it.
