Cuvée du Vatican

The winery is located in the commune of Châteauneuf du Pape in the area of the same name on the southern Rhône. It has been owned by the family for many generations and is now managed by Jean-Marc Diffonty. Traditionally, since 1959, a case of Cuvée du Vatican has been sent to Rome in honour of a newly elected pope. The Holy Father always thanks with a blessing and praises the excellent quality of the wine. The vineyards cover a total of 57 hectares of vines, 22.5 of which are in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area, on gravel soils interspersed with sand. The vines are on average around 45 years old. The Clos de Papes Rouge is blended from the Grenache Noir, Syrah Mourvèdre and Cinsault varieties, the CdP Blanc from the Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Bourboulenc varieties. A Côtes du Rhône is also produced, as well as a Pays d'Oc under the label "Domaine de Brès".
