The red grape variety is a new breed between Deckrot x Blue Portuguese, The crossing took place in 1972 in the research institute Geisenheim (Rheingau) by Dr. Helmut Becker (1927-1990). Outwardly it is very similar to the father variety. The vine is resistant to frost and fungal diseases, The red fleshy berries produce deep dark red wines, which are excellent teinturier (Deck wine) are suitable. The variety occupies in Germany (Baden, Rheinhessen, Pfalz) 58 hectares and in the Switzerland (Schaffhausen) 13 hectares of vineyards.
