This red grape variety comes from France. It should not be confused with the Black Morocco variety (with the synonym Black Damascus). The crossing or selection took place in 1851 in France at the Moreau-Robert vine breeding institute. It is unclear whether it is a new breeding or a spontaneous crossing; the parentage is unknown. The grape variety is used as table grape. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
As honorary chairman of the Domäne Wachau, it is the easiest and quickest way for me to access the wein.plus encyclopaedia when I have questions. The certainty of receiving well-founded and up-to-date information here makes it an indispensable guide.
