The red grape variety is a new breed between Madeleine Angevine x Teinturier ( Teinturier du Cher ) published in 2012 DNA analysis, The parenting provided by the breeder Blue Portuguese x Teinturier turned out to be wrong. Synonyms are Froelich V 4-4, color grape Froelich and purple. The crossing was done by the private breeder Gustav Adolf Froelich (1847-1912). For many decades, the variety was ignored and was used as a "Froelich V 4-4" in breeding establishments.
In the 1930s she was in the research institute Geisenheim edited ampelographisch and received from Dr. med. Helmut Becker (1927-1990) the name Dunkelfelder, with which he alluded to the unknown origin and the dark wine color.
