De re rustica

Four ancient authors wrote under this title (On Rural Affairs) textbooks on agriculture with partly extensive consideration of the winemaking, Although Petrus de Crescentiis gives a different title to his work, published in the late Middle Ages, it also deals with the same theme. He cites the four authors and takes the structure of Columella's work as a model:

  • Cato the Elder (234-149 BC) - also "De agri cultura"
  • Columella (1st century) - also "Rei rusticae libri duodecim"
  • Palladius (4th century) - also "Opus agriculturae"
  • Petrus de Crescentiis (1230 / 1233-1320 / 1321) - "Ruralia commoda"
  • Varro (116-27 BC) - also "Res rusticae" or "Rerum rusticarum libri tres"
