Decant

carafer (F)

Term (from French carafer) for the pouring of a wine bottle into a carafe (Decanter carafe) or container for the purpose of airing (Oxygen contact). In contrast to that stands with decanting (French décanter) separating from depot (Sediment) in the foreground. Quite often, decanting is wrongly understood to mean both. If the wine is poured back into the bottle from the carafe (e.g. because there are not enough carafes available), this is called double decanting. See also under Weingenuss,
