Delisle

The white grape variety is a complex interspecific new variety between Elmer Swenson 2-2-22 (ES 283 x ES 193) x Espirit. ES 293 and ES 193 are also results of crosses, which in turn are also results of crosses. Therefore, genes from eight different vine species are included, namely Vitis aestivalis, Vitis berlandieri, Vitis cinerea, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis riparia, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The crossing of the hybrids was done by the breeder Elmer Swenson (1913-2004) on his farm near Osceola in Wisconsin. The early ripening, frost-hardy vine produces white wines with aromas of tropical fruits and citrus, as well as strong petroltones. It is grown in small quantities in Canada in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. In 2016, a stock of 0.1 hectares was designated (Kym Anderson).
