Demi

French term (half) for alcoholic drinks (mainly champagne but also wine) with a nominal volume of 0.375 litres, which corresponds to half of a 0.75 litre bottle (demi-bouteille). In France, however, this is also common for a glass of beer (half a litre). In Switzerland, this type of bottle is known as a three-eighths and in Austria as a Stifterl. See also under bottles and wine vessels.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
