The red grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Diana (3) x Black Hamburg (Schiava Grossa). It contains genes from Vitis labrusca and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1860 in the USA by the breeder Jacob Moore. It was a crossing partner of the new variety Brighton. The variety is mainly used as table grape. No stock was reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
