diaphragm

Partition or wooden bridge in hollow stems of plants that are in the place of Nodien (Knots = thickened areas). The nodes structure the annual wood of the vine in sections, the places between the nodes are called internodes. This dividing wall controls the flow of certain substances (liquids) or allows this in only one direction. Even the semi-permeable (semi-permeable) partitions in one osmosis are called diaphragms.
