diaphragm

Separate wall or wooden bridge in hollow trunks of plants, which are in place of the Nodien (Nodes = thickened places). The Nodien break down the one-year wood of the vine in sections, the places between the nodes are called internodes. This septum controls the flow of certain substances (liquids), or allows this in one direction only. Also, the semipermeable (semipermeable) partitions at a osmosis are referred to as a diaphragm.
