The winery is based in the municipality of Bergholtz in the French wine-growing region Alsace (Haut Rin). It was founded in 1871 by former teacher Jean Dirler. The Grand Cru varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer and Muscat d'Alsace (Muscat Blanc), as well as Gutedel (Chasselas), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Sylvaner are cultivated. The property is divided into several locations. The wines under the AC Alsace Grand Cru come from the locations Kessler. Kitterlé. Saering and mirror,
