The "Winzerhof Dockner" is located in the municipality of Höbenbach near Krems at the foot of the Göttweiger Berg in the wine-growing region of Kremstal (Lower Austria). Attached to it is a wine tavern. Opposite it is the newly built tasting centre in the middle of the vineyards, where group tastings, seminars and monthly vintner brunches are held. In 2017, the JOE cellar was opened, where larger quantities can be processed quickly and gently. From a total of 160 hectares of vineyards, around one million bottles are produced annually. The first sparkling wine factory in Krems is located in the Frauengrund vineyard. In the Kellergassse, several cellars were elaborately renovated and joined together. The business is run by "Sepp" and Gudrun Dockner, with son Josef responsible for vinification.
The vineyards are located in Frauengrund (Angern), Himmelreich (Höbenbach), Leithen (Egelsee), Lusthausberg (Hollenburg), Gottschelle and Oberfeld (Furth), as well as Rosengarten (Tiefenfucha). The white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Muskateller are processed to 70%, and the red wine varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir to 30%. Only physiologically ripe and healthy grapes are processed in the cellar through a selective grape harvest in several rounds.
The best 40 barriques of each vintage are stored in the sacracellar, which is decorated with an oil painting. In the wooden barrel cellar, there are hand-carved wooden barrels and specially designed stainless steel tanks with the wine patrons of the past decades. Since 1992, there has been an annual wine christening on 11 November on the occasion of Martini, where personalities from the worlds of sport, politics, media and culture act as christening sponsors. These included the sportsmen Karl Schranz, Franz Klammer and Paul Breitner, the politicians Helmut Zilk, Michael Häupl, Josef Pühringer, Franz Vranitzky, Erwin Pröll and Johanna Mikl-Leitner, the painter Hermann Nitsch, the musicians Wolfgang Ambros and Marianne Mendt, and the wine priest Hans Denk.
The extremely extensive product range is divided into 13 lines, these are Göttweiger Berg, single vineyard wines, Joe Weine, Reserve, Sacra (for example the red wine cuveé named after the "Holy Göttweiger Berg" made from the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zweigelt), Iosephos & Ionanis, Domäne Baron Geymüller, sparkling wines, sweet wines (ice wine, liqueur), high-proof spirits (apricot, Williams pear, nut, pomace brandy), special creations (Vermouth, apricot beer) and fruit juices. The winery is a member of "Vinum Circa Montem" (wine around the mountain = Göttweiger Berg).
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
