Single location on Blankenhornsberg (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German growing region to bathe, It was created in 1842 by the brothers Adolph Friedrich, Nicolaus and Wilhelm Blankenhorn, who planted the first vines on the cultivated overgrown hillside above the community of Ihringen in 1844. The son of Adolph Friedrich, Professor Dr. Adolph Blankenhorn (1843-1906) used this vineyard early on for research and experimental purposes, from which the name is derived in honor of this one. The vineyards, mainly oriented to the west and east, and in the form of an amphitheater from the west to the southeast at 210 to 300 meters above sea level with 10 to 60% slope, comprise 25 hectares of vineyards. The volcanic weathering soils are interspersed with loess clay and calcareous loess material. The varieties Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Muscat, Nutmeg Ottonel, Scheurebe, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir are grown here. The location was owned by the family Blankenhorn sold to the Baden Chamber of Agriculture in 1919 and to the State Wine Institute in 1954 Freiburg affiliated. The vineyards are from the connected State winery Freiburg farmed.
