The winery is located in the municipality of Straß im Straßertale in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Kamptal. A wine tavern is attached. The foundation stone for the quality business was laid by Peter I, who immigrated from the Rhineland and was a pioneer in the winegrowing region, creating long-lasting wines. Today the business is run by father Peter II and son Peter III. The vineyards cover 32 hectares of vines in the Brunngasse, Gaisberg, Hasel and Heiligenstein vineyards. They are 70% planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, and 30% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Cabernet Sauvignon and Blauburger. Natural, plant-friendly and environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. An important quality criterion is a reduced yield. The grapes are subjected to a gentle whole bunch pressing. The musts are cooled in steel tanks and fermented under temperature control. The premium wines include several Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner Kamptal DAC or Kamptal DAC Reserve with different vineyard designations, as well as the red wine cuvée "Année" (Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Zweigelt) aged in barriques. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and noble brandies (wine, yeast, fruit) are also produced. Wines dating back to 1961 are stored in the vinotheque. The winery is a member of Traditionsweingüter Österreich.
For my many years of work as an editor with a wine and culinary focus, I always like to inform myself about special questions at Wine lexicon. Spontaneous reading and following links often leads to exciting discoveries in the wide world of wine.
