The winery is located in the municipality of Frauseilles in the Tarn department, 65 kilometres north-east of Toulouse in south-west France on the Cordais plateau in the north of the Gaillac region. In the historic Gascony landscape, high-quality wine was already being produced here in the Middle Ages. In 1999, Count von Thun und Hohenstein acquired the somewhat dilapidated Château de Frausseilles, which was first mentioned in 1270, and had it renovated. The historic wine cellar was activated and supplemented by a new cellar. AOC Gaillac appellation wines were produced until the 2002 vintage. Then the autochthonous varieties Braucol (Fer) and Duras were uprooted and, following an assessment by the Italian oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, it was decided to cultivate only international varieties. Since then, the wines have been marketed under IGP Côtes du Tarn.

Domaine du Comte de Thun

The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vines planted with the red wine varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Syrah, as well as the white wine varieties Chenin Blanc and Mauzac Blanc. The greatly reduced average yield is 25 hl/ha. The grapes ferment on the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks under analytical and sensory control. Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in new barriques. The wines then mature for at least 18 months in barriques and a further 12 months in the bottle. The product range includes the 100% single-varietal premium red wines "La Maze" (Merlot), "La Tarabelle" (Syrah) and "La Cabane" (Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir), as well as second and third wines. In addition, the sparkling wine "Thun" (rosé) is also produced according to the Méthode traditionnelle. The wines are bottled without filtration. The winery follows the charter of the "Vigneron Indépendant" association.
