The winery is located in the municipality of Montrachet (Puligny-Montrachet) in the Côte de Beaune area, the southern part of the Côte d'Or in French Burgundy. It was founded by Joseph Leflaive (1870-1953), whose eldest son Vincent Leflaive (+1993) continued to run it. When he retired from the business, his daughter Anne-Claude and nephew Olivier Leflaive took over. Three years later, Olivier started a wine business and retired. The vineyards cover 22 hectares of vines with shares in the Premiers Crus Les Clavoillons, Les Combettes, Les Folatières and Les Pucelles, as well as the Grands Crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Le Montrachet. Anne Claude already warned in the 1990s against the destructive exploitation of the soil and was one of the first in Burgundy and France to switch to biodynamic viticulture. The main grape variety is Chardonnay. At the legendary Paris Wine Tasting in 1976, the "Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1972" took eighth place.
