The winery is located in the municipality Montrachet
(Puligny-Montrachet) in the area Côte de Beaune, the southern part of the Côte d'Or
in the French Burgundy
, It was founded by Joseph Leflaive (1870-1953); its eldest son Vincent Leflaive (+1993) then continued it. After retiring from the business, daughter Anne-Claude and nephew Olivier Leflaive took the lead. Three years later, Olivier started a wine trade and left. The vineyards cover 22 hectares of vineyards with shares in the Premiers Crus Les Clavoillons, Les Combettes, Les Folatières and Les Pucelles, as well as the Grands Crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Le Montrachet. As early as the 1990s, Anne Claude warned against the destructive exploitation of soils and became one of the first in Burgundy and in France Biodynamic viticulture
