Domaine Roulot

The vineyard "Domaine Guy Roulot" is located in the municipality of Meursault in the Burgundy region of Côte de Beaune. The family has been growing wine here for a very long time, which is documented by a Guillaume Roulot in 1830. In the 1960s it was managed by Guy Roulot, who replanted the vineyards, some of which still exist today. After his death in 1982, the estate was managed for some time by the American oenologist Ted Lemon. Since 1989, Jean-Marc Roulot, another member of the family, has taken over the management. The vineyards cover 11 hectares in the communes of Meursault (for example in the Premiers Crus Charmes and Perrières), Auxey-Duresses and Monthélie. They are mainly planted with Chardonnay and (especially in the latter two communes) Pinot Noir. Since 1999, they have been cultivated entirely according to organic guidelines, and there have also been experiments with biodynamic viticulture. Yields are reduced in May by means of ebourgeonnage (removal of excess buds). The wines lie on the yeast for a very long time without bâtonnage (stirring), mostly until the next harvest. At the legendary Paris Wine Tasting in 1976, the "Meursault Charmes 1973" (Chardonnay) took second place and "saved the French honour".
