Domaine Verena Wyss

The estate is located in the Gabian commune in the department Hérault in the French region Languedoc-Roussillon, The then somewhat battered property was discovered in 1989 by Verena Wyss and her husband and revitalized by building a new cellar and renovating a barrel cellar. The vineyards cover more than 13 hectares of vineyards, from which a view of the Mediterranean, some 30 kilometers away, is possible. They are planted with the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Lledoner Pelud (Garnacha Peluda), as well as the white varieties Viognier and Roussanne. All vines are with short pruning after Guyot behaved. The gently sloping slopes favor the homogeneous and complete maturation of the vines planted to the south. A nearby forest creates an excellent microclimate, a variety of hedges and shrubs favors healthy growth.

The management is carried out consistently according to the strictly observed rules of the Organic (ecological) viticulture, In the meantime the operation of ECOCERT certified. Chemical sprays are not used. By greening the rows of vines with herbs and clover counteract the initial soil erosion. Every three years, the soil becomes self-generated compost made of organic manure, straw and rotted rape brought in. The greatly reduced earnings is between 25 to 40 hectoliters / hectare. Appropriate selective hand picking means that only ripe and healthy grapes are processed.

The work in the vineyard and cellar is done under the noninvasive Operating philosophy "Less is more". The wines are bottled on the domain using their own system. The product range includes various white wines IGP d'Oc Blancs and red wines IGP d'Oc Rouges (see below Pays d'Oc ). The premium wines include the WYSS wine from 100% Viognier, and the red wine blend Belcanto from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Around 34,000 bottles of wine are produced annually.
