Donabaum In The Spitz

The winery is located in the municipality Spitz on the Danube in the wine region Wachau in Lower Austria. Documentary evidence that wine has been made in the cellar since 1602. The business has been owned by the family since 1966 and has been managed by Alexandra and Martin Donabaum since 1997. Connected are a guest house and the Heuriger “Zum Strawanzer” in Spitz, which opened in 2002. The vineyards cover 5.5 hectares of vineyards in the Hartberg, Offenberg and Setzberg vineyards. They are 80% planted with the white varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Neuburger, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc, and 20% with Zweigelt. The premium wines include Riesling Smaragd Setzberg, Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Setzberg, Neuburger Smaragd old sticks and Weißburgunder Jubilée Smaragd. When the weather is good, dry berries and ice wines are also pressed. Around 30,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines and brandies are also produced.
