Donauveltliner

The white grape variety (breeding no. 1979-10-1-24) is a new variety between Grüner Veltliner x Seyval Blanc. It contains genes from Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1996 by Ferdinand Regner at the Klosterneuburger Weinbauinstitut (Austria). The medium-maturing, frost-resistant vine is resistant to various fungal diseases such as powdery mildew, downy mildew, botrytis, red burner, black spot disease and black rot. It is therefore considered a PIWI variety. It produces fruity white wines similar to Grüner Veltliner. The variety was first registered in Lower Austria and Burgenland in 2016. No stock was recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
