Donzelinho Tinto

The red grape variety comes from Portugal, Synonyms are Donzelinho do Castello, Donzelynho and Tinto do Minho. It must not be with the variety Trousseau Noir (Tinta Lisboa) can be confused. The old variety was mentioned in the Douro area as Donzelyhno as early as 1531, although it is not clear whether the white or red Donzelinho was meant. According to 2010 DNA analysis it is not a color mutation the white variety not related to it Donzelinho Branco, The variety is often grown in a mixed set in the northeast, and is in the fields Douro and Tras-os-Montes authorized. There is a tiny stock of the slightly lighter Donzelinho Roxo variety in the Trás-os-Montes area. In 2010, 33 hectares were designated for Donzelinho Tinto and less than one hectare for Donzelinho Roxo.
