The red grape variety comes from Croatia. Synonyms are Darnekusa, Darnekusa Mala, Darnekusa Vela and Dernakusa. The late ripening, high-yielding vine is susceptible to both types of mildew. It is cultivated in small quantities exclusively on the island of Hvar near the Dalmatian coast near Split and is also used to make pure wine.
