The red grape variety is a new variety between (Muscat Bouschet x Oporto = Blauer Portugieser) x Svätovavrinecké(St. Laurent). The name is derived from the Slovakian name for the Danube. The Muttter variety was crossed in 1951, the cross with Svätovavrinecké in 1958 in Slovakia by Dorota Pospíšilová. The medium to late ripening vine is resistant to frost, botrytis and downy mildew, but susceptible to powdery mildew. It produces dark-coloured, mild red wines with aromas of cherries and chocolate. It is cultivated on 62 hectares in Slovakia and 6 hectares in the Czech Republic.
