Durquéty Pierre Marcel

The Basque ampelographer and vine grower Pierre Marcel Durquéty (1923-2016) worked at the INAO (Institut National de l'Origine et de la qualité) in Bordeaux. From 1950 to 1980 he created the new varieties Agorra, Arinarnoa, Arriloba, Ederena, Egiodola, Ekigaïna, Liliorila, Odola, Perdea and Semebat in Montpellier. These were intended to replace the productive grape varieties that were massively cultivated after the phylloxera crisis. However, the success was rather modest. The varieties are grown in only small quantities, mainly in south-west France. Durquéty published the works "Monographie du Baroque ou Plant Bordelais" (1955) and together with P. Robert "Un vignoble au pays d'Euskadi" (1973).
